Ranked among the “Top Ten” metro school districts in the nation (Expansion Management magazine, 2007), Lawrence Public Schools serve 10,700 students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 in Lawrence, Kansas. Located on Interstate 70, about half-way between Topeka and Kansas City, Lawrence is an academic community, home to the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University. Lawrence USD 497 is the seventh-largest school district in Kansas and one of the largest employers in the City of Lawrence with approximately 1,800 staff.

Our 23 school campuses include an early childhood center (Pre-K), 15 elementary schools (grades K-6), four junior high schools (grades 7-9), two comprehensive high schools (grades 10-12), and a K-8 virtual school that offers a secondary program for grades 9-12. Lawrence Public Schools also offer a Parents as Teachers program for families of children from birth to age three, adult basic education and English as a Second Language courses, G.E.D. study and testing; and an adult diploma-completion program.
